Change Happens at the Speed of Trust: Stories from Discover’s Workplace Transformation

About our Presentation:
A conversation about the change management strategies (tools, tips, lessons learned) in creating a 21st century workplace for a financial services company.

About our Speaker:
Cynthia Milota is a designer, researcher and workplace activist. As Discover’s Workplace Strategist, her team’s work blends theory and practice to create places that support the work of our business. She loves a good story and integrates narrative as a tool into her design methodology. She’s a former adjunct instructor at Columbia College Chicago and College of DuPage. Her research interests include the use of video to disseminate research findings and focus work in the workplace.

About our site:

Discover Financial Services (NYSE: DFS) is a direct banking and payment services company with one of the most recognized brands in U.S. financial services. Since its inception in 1986, the company has become one of the largest card issuers in the United States. The company issues the Discover card, America’s cash rewards pioneer, and offers private student loans, personal loans, home equity loans, checking and savings accounts and certificates of deposit through its direct banking business. It operates the Discover Network, with millions of merchant and cash access locations; PULSE, one of the nation’s leading ATM/debit networks; and Diners Club International, a global payments network with acceptance in more than 185 countries and territories.
The Riverwoods campus is the Global Headquarters for Discover located at 2500 Lake Cook Road, Riverwoods, IL 60015. The sprawling campus is inclusive of approximately 1.2 million square feet of class A office space, 82 acres of land, and five ponds. On campus there are a total of four buildings that include a Fitness Center, Data Center, Medical Nurses Office, Cafeteria, Two “Grab N Go” destination dining locations, multiple event spaces, an outdoor butterfly garden, outdoor basketball court, and an outdoor sand volleyball court.
With over 4,000 employees and contractors working onsite, the campus is a bustling busy place full of activity. A campus transformation project is currently underway, scheduled to be completed in 2020. The remodel will provide flexibility (for growth and for teams to work anywhere), additional collaboration spaces and new meeting room options. The project is currently at a great point for IFMA visitors as many new wings have been completed, yet you’ll still be able to see the contrast with several wings left to improve.
